The Rock of Cashel

After our morning in Kinsale we hopped in the car and headed to Dublin by way of Cashel.  Cashel is a town about an hour or so north west of Kinsale and home to The Rock of Cashel.  And...as luck would have it, this attraction was also free to tour on the first Wednesday of every month, yay!

Much of the castle was under construction, which was fine because what was really amazing to see was the Cathedral that was built between 1235 and 1270.

I pretty much am in love with this picture

On the Cathedral grounds was a beautiful cemetery

The round tower seen below is the oldest part of the building, dating back to 1100.

Although not exactly on our way to Dublin, Cashel was a beautiful pit-stop to see some history and get some more coffee.
