Road Trip Day 3: Witnessing Old Crapful

It was a relaxing morning this morning as we slept in a bit before heading to the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Little did we know our first encounter with wildlife would be before we even entered the actual park. As we were in line to buy our pass we saw a little field mouse scurrying around the cars. Next, we saw a big crow walking around. Is there even a question of what happened next? Needless to say, we witnessed the circle of life before our day trip had even started. We did mostly driving today, but saw some incredible sights. There were tons of geysers, bison, elk, and blue sky. It did rain a little bit on us but we were heading towards Lower Falls so it wasn't bad timing.

We were planning on visiting Old Faithful right before heading back to Jean's place, and let me tell you the lodge was beautiful, but Old Faithful was not! Old Faithful is named this because it never fails and the time it erupts can be predicted within about 10 minutes, give or take. We sat on a bench for close to an hour waiting for Old Faithful to show us it's stuff, but all we ever got was a lot of billowing steam and some little sputters of water. The whole event was so uneventful and disappointing that this little national treasure will go down in Sanders history as Old Crapful, which seems to be a far more appropriate name.

Once back at Jean's we headed to the Bear and Wolves Experience to see some rescued wildlife and learn some fun facts, and then headed out to a dinner filled with good food and better company. Tomorrow our actual camping adventures begin as we make our way down to The Grand Tetons.
